2019 Chinese Spring Gala Invited Violinist

Vivian Kukiel

Vivian Kukiel 18, is a Toronto based violinist.

At the age of 7, she was invited to the studio of Kelly Parkins- Lindstrom and has since attained the highest practical RCM Exam Mark in the Province for two years running. Subsequently, she was awarded First Class Honours with Distinction for her ARCT Exam. She has been named Most Promising Violinist at many competitions and festivals and has twice achieved a first place at the OMFA provincials.

On a National level, Vivian has been awarded 1st Place for her age at the 2014 and 2016 Canadian Music Competition, and 2nd Place at the OMFA Nationals. This past summer, Vivian competed in her first international music festival in Budapest, Hungary called The Ilona Feher International Violin Competition, receiving first prize.
She joined the Royal Conservatory of Music, the Taylor Academy in 2009 and is currently studying with the renowned Curtis and Peabody Institute pedagogue Victor Danchenko as well as the Concertmaster of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Jonathan Crow.

Vivian has been a soloist with the Academy Chamber Orchestra, the Toronto Sinfonietta, the Niagara Symphony, and the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony. She was also invited to perform the Bach Double Violin Concerto with the Tokyo String Quartet 1st Violinist, Martin Beaver. At the Royal Conservatory of Music, she has been invited to perform for Peter Oundjian, Ida Kavafian, and Midori.

During the summer, she frequents some of the world’s most renowned Chamber Music Festivals, including Music@Menlo, under the direction of David Finckel and Wu Han, the National Arts Centre’s Young Artist Program under the direction of Pinchas Zukerman, Morningside Music Bridge International Music Festival, as well as the Salzburg Mozarteum Festival.
